Based on an idea from a Channel 4
documentary about the US Choir, Young@Heart,
Virginia Water resident, Dave Thomas,
formed the Wonderyears Choir in October 2007.
The Wonderyears Choir comprising of local
senior citizens belt out classic
rock numbers as well as more poignant
recent ballads from groups such as Coldplay.
Dave says “Members of the choir have found
a new lease of life and
their performances are both inspirational
and moving."
“There are plenty of other choirs that
sing traditional music –
I believe that this choir is unique in
Surrey.”
The Wonderyears Choir’s first full public
performance in May 2008 was a sell
out with the Choir receiving a standing
ovation at the end of the performance.
The Choir has also appeared on BBC local
radio and has a programme of concerts planned.
The Wonderyears Choir, rehearse at Christ
Church, Virginia Water on Monday evenings.
There is currently a waiting list for
ladies wanting to join the choir but Dave is keen
to hear from any male senior citizens who
enjoy rock and pop music and would be
interested in joining the choir.
Dave would also like to hear from
accomplished musicians who would
be interested in joining the choir’s
backing group, the Wonderyears Band.
